If you do not wish to receive healthcare benefits for our services, you do not need a referral to access our services.
If you would like to receive healthcare benefits for our services, you will need to obtain a referral and/or other related treatment plan before accessing our services. You may be eligible for one or more of the following healthcare benefits:
Autism Advisor Program
Children (aged 6 and under) with a diagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorder may obtain funding for Early Intervention services, including psychological services, under the Australian Government’s Helping Children with Autism program. Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) delivers the Autism Advisor Program in New South Wales. Parents can access up to $12,000 from this program to pay for therapy, including psychological services, until their child is seven years of age. As long as your child has been approved for this program and has available funding, you can elect to use your child’s funding to make direct claims. As a result, you would not pay a gap fee for our services.
People with an assessed mental disorder, such as anxiety, depression and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder may obtain a Medicare refund for psychological treatment under the Australian Government’s Better Access to Mental Health Care program. In order to access this program, you must first make an appointment with your general practitioner, psychiatrist or paediatrician to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan before seeking treatment with us. Eligible clients receive $124.50 of the cost of each individual session (to a maximum of 10 individual sessions per calendar year) and $31.65 (clinical psychologist) or $21.65 (psychologist) of the cost of each group session (to a maximum of 10 group sessions per calendar year).
Children (under 15 years of age) with autism or any other pervasive developmental disorder may obtain a Medicare refund for psychological assessment and/or treatment under the Australian Government’s Helping Children with Autism program. In order to access this program, it is necessary to make an appointment with a paediatrician or psychiatrist to obtain a referral for an assessment or treatment. Please ask your paediatrician for a referral under Medicare Benefits Scheme (item 135) or your psychiatrist for a referral under Medicare Benefits Scheme (item 289). Eligible clients receive $84.80 of the cost of each assessment (up to a maximum of 4 sessions) and $84.80 of the cost of each treatment session (up to a maximum of 20 sessions).
Private Health Insurance
We recommend that you contact your private health insurance company to investigate whether you are covered for psychological services and to determine the amount you are likely to receive for each session.
We strive to provide you with affordable, high quality psychological services. Our fees are lower than the Australian Psychological Society’s recommended fees. Our fees vary, depending on the service you receive and your treating psychologist.
We understand that some families may not be able to afford our regular services. We established our Student Clinic to help provide reduced-rate services for such families.
Fees are payable at the time of service. You can pay via cash, EFTPOS or credit card. We have a HICAPS system that provides you with an easy and efficient payment method (EFTPOS/credit card) and claim submission method for Medicare and most private health insurance companies.
As our service is in high demand, we operate a waiting list. When clients cancel with sufficient notice, we are able to help new clients or returning clients in need to see us sooner. If you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment, the following cancellation policy applies:
- If you cancel more than 48 hours from the time of your scheduled appointment, you will not incur a fee. This timeframe allows us to book another client into your scheduled appointment time.
- If you cancel less than 48 hours but more than 24 hours from the time of your scheduled appointment, you will incur half of the fee of your session.
- If you cancel less than 24 hours from the time of your scheduled appointment, you will incur the total fee of your session.
- Finally, you are not permitted by the Australian Government or private health insurance companies to use your healthcare benefits to cover cancellation costs.
