Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Children and Adolescents

This two-day workshop provides a comprehensive overview of the principles and practices of cognitive behaviour therapy with children and adolescents. Participants will be introduced to the foundational assumptions and guiding principles of CBT, the range of strategies and techniques employed, and the impact of developmental and cultural considerations. The critical role of case formulation in the design and implementation of interventions will be explored, with participants practiced in the development of case formulation and their use in intervention planning. The workshop will provide training in the delivery of specific behavioural, cognitive, emotional and social interventions, including behavioural activation, behavioural experiments, cognitive therapy, problem solving, relaxation and imagery, and emotion focused techniques for children and adolescents.

By the end of this workshop participants will:

  • Develop skills in delivering key components of CBT to children and adolescents
  • Have an understanding of and the opportunity to practise using case formulation to guide treatment planning
  • Gain skills to tailor CBT to different age groups of children and adolescents
  • Gain knowledge in how to incorporate the child’s/adolescent’s family into treatment
