A holistic approach to child psychometric assessment

Event 1 (Day 1) - Conducting meaningful psychometric assessments from beginning to end

Gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to conduct comprehensive, high quality, child psychometric assessments. The workshop focuses on ensuring that every step of the assessment process obtains meaningful information and strategies for clients.

By the end of this workshop you will:

  • Use a clear, step-by-step process to conduct assessments
  • Identify the key question that needs to be answered in an assessment
  • Gain knowledge in the diversity of assessment tools available
  • Select the appropriate and least number of assessment tools required to measure a range of childhood social, emotional, and developmental disorders to answer the key question
  • Interpret the results of questionnaires such as the: Conners, ABAS, BASC, and CBCL
  • Generate meaningful, practical recommendations for specific presentations
  • Suitably communicate the results of an assessment to  young people, parents, and teachers
  • Participants will be introduced to a step-by-step approach for analysing WISC-V profiles, and for generating hypotheses

 

Event 2 (Day 2) - Using the new WIAT-III and the WISC-V as an inclusive learning assessment

This workshop introduces and discusses the utility of the recently released WIAT-III. We investigate using the WIAT-III with the WISC-V to assess children’s intellectual and academic abilities to identify learning disorders, giftedness and learning profiles.

By the end of this workshop you will:

  • Understand the changes to the WIAT-III
  • Through video and live demonstrations, develop knowledge of how to administer the new and modified WIAT-III subtests in both the paper and iPad versions
  • Understand the psychometric properties, strengths, and weaknesses of the WIAT-III
  • Determine appropriate presentations for using the WIAT-III in conjunction with other assessments tools
  • Use case studies participants to analyse WIAT-III and WISC-V profiles to interpret results and accurately identify specific learning disorders, language disorders, intellectual disability, low intellectual ability, and giftedness
  • Use assessment data to develop meaningful recommendations that will assist young people in their home and school environments introduction to the use and interpretation of the new Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – Fifth Edition (WISC-V).
